Big tragedy again on Jiutia festival, Jemco Azadnagar’s teenager had come to take a dip in river with mother on Jiutia festival
Jamshedpur: In a shocking tragedy a 15-year-old adolescent, Rishi Kumar, drowned in Kharkai river at Baroda Ghat under the jurisdiction of Bagbera police station Sunday, while taking bath in the river.
This happened on a day mothers were observing fast for long life of their sons.
Rishi Kumar too had come to the river with his mother. He traveled at least 10 kms to accompany his mother so that she could take a dip in the river.
According to eyewitnesses, Rishi got into the water and was taking bath when he suddenly drowned and vanished from sight.
For the last two years, people have not been celebrating the festivals with traditional fervour owing to restrictions in the aftermath of the Corona epidemic.
However, due to relaxation in rules this year, a large number of women had reached the river ghat with their families.
Today, Rishi’s mother too had arrived to offer puja after taking bath.
15-year-old Rishi Kumar, a resident of Jemco, also came to Baroda Ghat with his mother.
Due to incessant rains, the water level of the river is high.
Unaware of the risks in taking bath at the place, Rishi went down to take a bath in the river and within a short time he drowned in seconds.
Seeing this, the women around shouted for help.
Several bystanders tried to find him by getting into the water. However, their efforts failed.
Rishi Kumar was a matriculation student. He was the only son of his parents.
On getting information about the incident, Bagbera police and former district councilorl of the area, Kishore Yadav reached Baroda Ghat and called a diver and tried to trace Rishi.
However, their efforts failed.
Kishore Yadav said that such tragedies have been occurring regularly at Baroda Ghat. He said that the district administration needs to be serious to prevent such incidents by putting up barricades at the place as well as warning signs.
He said that after two years, a large number of women had assembled to bathe on Jiutiya festival this year.
Baroda Ghat has been a virtual danger zone.
He said that the administration should barricade the river bank at Baroda Ghat to save lives.
