33-year-old man drowns while performing rituals in Kharkai river, Jamshedpur; Locals demand adequate safety.
JAMSHEDPUR – A tragic incident occurred on Tuesday evening at Baroda Ghat, under the Bagbera police station jurisdiction in Jamshedpur.
33-year-old Raja Munda drowned in the Kharkai river while performing Shradh rituals.
Raja Munda was a resident of Gandhinagar and was known to be a driver for a Tata 407 vehicle.
When people arrived at Baroda Ghat, they found Raja’s clothes on the river bank.
A woman reported having seen him drowning, prompting a search for Raja.
However, efforts to locate him were unsuccessful.
The incident once again highlights the danger that the Kharkai river at Bagbera Baroda Ghat presents to swimmers and spectators.
Every year, numerous drownings occur in the area, with many victims being young individuals.
The local community has been vocal about the need for better safety measures at the Ghat.
They have repeatedly called for adequate barricading, clear warning displays, and safety arrangements.
Despite these demands, the location remains hazardous due to what locals describe as administrative apathy.
