City BJP flays provision of Room for Namaz in Assembly Building

Mahanagar BJP president Gunjan Yadav said that Govt should not make legislature a center of appeasement and if it sticks to its decision then construction of a Mandir should also be allowed for Hindu MLAs.

Jamshedpur: The decision to allocate a room for namaz in the Jharkhand Assembly building has come for a scathing criticism from BJP. The Bharatiya Janata Party took strong objection to allotment of a separate room for offering namaz in the Jharkhand Assembly building.

Flaying the decision to allot a separate room for Namaz in the Assembly Building, the Jamshedpur Mahanagar BJP president Gunjan Yadav called it a decision taken under pressure from the state government.

Currently, Jharkhand Legsilative Assembly has 81 members and there are four MLAs who belong to Muslim community. Two are from Congress, Irfan Asnari and Alamgir Alam, while the two others are from JMM, Dr Sarfaraz Ahmad and Haji Hussain Ansari.

On Saturday, Gunjan Yadav issued a press-release and demanded withdrawal of the decision and called it undemocratic and unconstitutional.

He said that the Vidhan Sabha is a sacred constitutional body of the state. But the JMM-Congress coalition government, he said, is using the Assembly as a center of appeasement.

He said the Speaker of the Assembly has failed in taking appropriate constitutional decisions.

He charged that even after 19 months, the leader of the BJP Legislature Party and former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi is not being recognised as the Leader of Opposition, owing to which he is being deprived of the right to make statements in every session.

He alleged that this is being done at the behest of the government.

Gunjan Yadav said that the Hemant government is trying to hide its failure by taking appeasement-driven decisions instead of fulfilling its election promises.

On the other hand, the Mahanagar BJP Spokesperson Prem Jha called the decision of the state government motivated by appeasement.

He said that religious freedom and rights of the majority community is being violated continuously under the Hemant government.

He said that during the last Durga Puja, an order was issued to shorten the height of the idols of Maa Durga.

He said that major religious places and temples of Hindus are being opened for devotees across the country, but the Jharkhand government has kept all the temples of the state, including Baba Baidyanath Dham and Basukinath Temple, closed for devotees till now.

He said that BJP respects all religions. In such a situation, keeping in mind the sentiments of the majority of MLAs, permission should be given to build a temple in the Assembly building and regular Hanuman Chalisa recitation and aarti too should be allowed.
