NIT Jamshedpur to hold quiz competition to honour late Sheeraz Zama Khan

3-day Virtual Conference on Materials Processing by NIT Jamshedpur from Oct 31

Jamshedpur: NIT Jamshedpur will hold a quiz competition in memory of Sheeraz Zama Khan, the late Senior Manager of Tata Steel and an ex-student of NIT Jamshedpur, who had died in a tragic accident on September 22 last.

The quiz competition would be held during the 3-day virtual seminar that is going to be organised in NIT Jamshedpur from October 31. The Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, NIT Jamshedpur is organising this seminar. This would be the 2nd Virtual National Conference on Advancement in Materials Processing Technology.

The institute expressed hope that the conference will provides an excellent platform to know, exchange new ideas, and understand the challenges related to the materials sector.

Dr. B.S. Murthy, Director of IIT Hyderabad will be the the Chief Guest. The conference is largely being organized under the guidance of Dr. Ranjit Prasad and Dr. Rina Sahu, professors at NIT Jamshedpur.

Researchers, students and academicians from IIT Madras, IIT Bombay, IIT Kharagpur, IIT BHU, ISM Dhanbad, NIT Kurukshetra, NIT Patna, NIFFT Ranchi, Andhra University, MDU University and over a dozen other prestigious institutes and organisations have contributed over 144 research papers for discussion.

The conference is to witness a huge success and appreciation for its discussions over emerging technologies in materials processing.

In a significant move that shows that the institute cares for its ex-students too and holds them dear, the department has decided to hold a quiz programme to honour two of its students who unfortunately are no more.

The institute said that AMPT-2020 will include a quiz competition in the memory of its beloved graduates of 2012- Late Mr. Sheeraz Zama Khan & Late Mr. Kaushik Swaminathan from Metallurgy and Materials, NIT Jamshedpur.

The quiz is to promote personal safety culture in different workspace environments such as industrial, laboratory, cyber, etc.

Prize money worth Rs. 15,000 has created a buzz and received a participation of over 100. Coordinator of the conference will be Dr Rina Sahu.

It may be recalled that on September 22 last, in a tragic accident in Tata Steel Cold Rolling Mill Galvanizing Line in Jamshedpur, Senior Manager Operations Sheeraz Zama Khan, 27, got entrapped in the exit looper and lost his life. He was working in night shift. While trying to attend to a mechanical fault in CGL-2, he got entrapped in Exit Looper and could not come out.
