Tata Steel skilling rural youths to get jobs overseas

2 from Noamundi get job offers from a company based in Hong Kong

Noamundi/Jamshedpur, October 17, 2020: With focus on inclusive growth, Tata Steel’s efforts have always been to provide skill development opportunities for rural youths for better employment. Over the years, Tata Steel has been shaping young rural talent to make them industry ready.

Tata Steel Skill Development Society (TSSDS) is running ITI’s in PPP mode with Government of Jharkhand at Tamar (Ranchi) and Jagannathpur (West Singhbhum) and also offering vocational training programmes to the rural youth in its operational areas of Jharkhand and Odisha. Gurucharan Bobonga and Kapil Dev Pradhan from Noamundi are the shining cases who have got job offers from TVSC Construction Steel Solutions in Hong Kong.

Gurucharan and Kapil are ITI trained fitters who got there initial counselling done at Tata Steel Foundation, Noamundi followed by a 2-month training at HTTC Overseas Training and Testing Services Limited, Kolkata for overseas placement. Both are set to join TVSC Construction Steel Solutions, a subsidiary of Hong Kong Shanghai Alliance Holdings Limited, as machine operator. They have secured a contract for 2 years from the company and application of their work visa is currently under process. Apart from decent salaries, they will also get free furnished accommodation (shared basis) and free transport to & from residence to workplace.

Sharing his experience, Gurucharan said: “Tata Steel has been our guiding light from the very beginning. This job offer in Hong Kong will not only shape my life but will also change the life of my family. I am thankful to Tata Steel for their constant guidance and support in preparing us to get this job.

In June 2009, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Government of Jharkhand and Tata Steel for a period of 30 years to set-up and run an Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Jharkhand. Thereafter, TSSDS, a non-profit making society formed by Tata Steel set-up TSSDS Pvt ITI, Tamar with state-of-art facilities and appointed Nettur Technical Training Foundation, Bangalore as training service provider to run the institute. The ITI is operational from August 1, 2012 and is running five trades of Fitter, Electrician, Turner, Welder and Mason. Till date, there has been 100% placement for candidates who passed out from the institute.
