THE LEGEND MAHI RETIRES IN STYLE

Dhoni does it quietly, retires from international cricket, posts video with song “Main pal do pal ka shayar hoon”

Ranchi: The former Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket on Saturday. He did it quietly in his own style when none expected. With this, he has also put all surmises about his retirement to rest.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is counted among one of the most successful captains of Indian cricket.

However, he had not played since last year ODI World Cup when India had to exit after the semi-final match.

Dhoni has the credit of winning World Cup title in 2011.

Dhoni’s stint in the Indian cricket is legendary and everyone in India is aware of it. It was also the subject of a movie in which late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput played Dhoni’s character.

Dhoni is also known for his helicopter shots.

Dhoni posted on his Instagram handle: “Thanks a lot for ur love and support throughout. From 1929 hrs consider me as retired.”.

The chief minister of Jharkhand Hemant Soren expressed sadness. In a comment he said: “We will not be able to see Jharkhand’s son Mahi in blue jersey any more. But, the people of this country have not had enough yet. A farewell match of our Mahi be held in Ranchi and the entire world should witness it. I appeal to @BCCI to hold a farewell match. Jharkhand will host it.”

There is a flood of messages on social media surrounding Dhoni and his retirement in style.

The most talked about is his choice of the Song “Main Pal Do Pal ka shayar hoon”. That song says it all.

It may be added here that on Instagram Dhoni followed just three persons. His wife, his daughter and Amitabh Bachhan.

Virat Kohli too has posted an emotional comment on Dhoni’s retirement. He said: “Every cricketer has to end his journey one day, but still when someone you’ve gotten to know so closely announces that decision, you feel the emotion much more. What you’ve done for the country will always remain in everyone’s heart, but the mutual respect and warmth I’ve received from you will always stay in mine. The world has seen achievements.I’ve seen the person. Thanks for everything skip. I tip my hat to you.”

The famous cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle in a tweet paid rich tributes to the glorious cricketing career of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He disagreed with Dhoni and said that he was not a “pal do pal ka shayar” (a poet of one or two moments).

More than Dhoni’s retirement, his style of announcing his retirement, especially with a very touching song, has created ripples. Everyone is aghast with this huge six that he hit even while leaving the cricket ground. Most of the newspapers have mentioned the word “style” in their headlines in news items announcing his retirement.

His style has won the end-match again.

Sachin Tendulkar too lauded him for his contributions to Indian cricket. He commented: “Your contribution to Indian cricket has been immense @msdhoni. Winning the 2011 World Cup together has been the best moment of my life. Wishing you and your family all the very best for your 2nd innings.”
