Homage paid to student leaders martyred in JP movement

Jamshedpur: A programme was organised at Shaheed Chowk at Sakchi today to pay homage to the three students who were killed in firing during JP movement way back in 1974.

A large number of people had assembled at the place to pay floral tributes to the students, who had sacrificed their life for protecting democracy in the country.

Addressing the gathering, the founder of JP Chhatra Sangh, Sanjiv Acharya, said that Sangh has been demanding that statues of the three students who were killed in police firing during the JP movement be installed at Shahee Chowk, but nothing has been done yet.

He said that the former chief minister of Jharkhand too was a product of the student movement. However, even during his tenure as the chief minister of the state, he too did not make any effort to ensure that statues were installed to honour their great sacrifice.

He said that although the former chief minister did not do anything in this regard, he is of the firm belief that the MLA of Jamshedpur East, Saryu Roy, would do something to fulfil this long-standing demand.
