Rural Farmers, Vendors Demand Separate Market Space in Jamshedpur, Plan to Protest

Rural farmers and vegetable vendors from various villages to protest for a separate marketplace in Jamshedpur; memorandum to be handed to the Deputy Commissioner.

JAMSHEDPUR – Farmers and vegetable vendors from tribal villages have announced a demonstration planned for Monday, August 8, where they intend to submit a memorandum to the East Singhbhum District Deputy Commissioner.

The decision was taken at a meeting of vegetable vendors in Kadma Bazar on Tuesday.

The vendors, who hail from various villages including Patmada, Dovo, Rugdi, Dhannigoda, Hathiadih, Uttamdih, Vanadih, Itagad, and Vasudda, come to the Kadma Bazar to sell their produce.

The meeting, presided over by Harmohan Mahato, highlighted the issues faced by these rural farmer vendors.

Mahato stated that police and anti-social elements were allegedly oppressing the vendors who come to sell their produce at the city’s marketplaces.

He emphasized that these farmers, who are striving to feed their families, have a legal right to sell their produce at the city’s daily markets and therefore, a separate space should be allocated for rural vegetable vendors.

Many notable individuals such as Bishal Mahato, Manoj Kumar Mahato, Bishnudev Mahato, Bikas Mahato, Suraj Mahato, Proveer Mahato, Lakhi Mahato, and Sukhdev Mahato were present at the meeting.
