JAMSHEDPUR – Tributes were paid on Saturday to Jharkhand movement leader and former minister Ramdas Soren on his first death anniversary. A statue of the late leader was unveiled at Khadangajhar in Telco by minister Deepak Birua.

Ghatshila MLA Somesh Soren attended the ceremony along with Potka MLA Sanjeev Sardar. Ichagarh MLA Savita Mahto was also present at the event.

Several workers and supporters of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha gathered for the occasion. All those present garlanded the statue and offered floral tributes to the late leader.

Speaking on the occasion, Birua said Ramdas Soren had been among the prominent leaders of the Jharkhand movement. He said Soren had made significant contributions to the cause of Jharkhand’s formation.

Leaders and workers recalled Soren’s struggle and his work on his first death anniversary. A pledge was taken to continue following the path laid out by the late leader.

Party workers and supporters also resolved to carry forward Soren’s ideas and struggle. The event formed part of a series of tributes held across Jamshedpur to mark the occasion.

Ghatshila constituency has seen several administrative programmes in recent days, including a voter awareness drive held at Sona Devi University. Electoral roll inspections were also carried out recently across Ghatshila and Bahragora.

Potka has also featured in recent reports, including a bike rally organised by the Adivasi Bhumij Samaj on World Indigenous Day. Separately, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha’s chief, Hemant Soren, has recently attacked the Centre over the mining bill.
