Driver Flees As Kapali Police Nab Suspected Cattle Transport Vehicle

SERAIKELA – A tip-off about a Bolero being used to ferry cattle triggered a late Thursday chase that ended with three cows recovered and the vehicle seized in the Kapali area of Seraikela district.
The vehicle, bearing registration number OR09O-3887, was reportedly being used to transport cattle when police intercepted it. Acting on the information, Kapali OP police cordoned off the Purisilli area in an attempt to intercept the vehicle.
However, the driver sped away toward Kapali the moment he spotted the police cordon. Officers gave chase through the stretch, tracking the vehicle as it wove through nearby lanes.
The pursuit ended when the driver abandoned the Bolero in Hasmi Mohalla and slipped away under cover of darkness. Police then searched the abandoned vehicle and recovered three cows from inside it.
The animals were taken into safe custody, and the Bolero was seized as part of the ongoing investigation. Kapali OP in-charge Avinash Kumar said efforts were underway to identify the fleeing driver.
He said legal action would follow once the driver is arrested. Meanwhile, investigators are also probing the cattle’s origin and intended destination.
Police in the broader East Singhbhum region have stepped up scrutiny of suspected smuggling operations in recent months. Similar cattle seizure cases have previously been reported from villages around the Tamulia-Pudisili belt in the district.
Officials said the case has been registered, and a detailed inquiry into the wider network is in progress. The Kapali locality has seen a string of similar law-and-order cases in recent years.
