GIRIDIH — A man has been arrested for allegedly killing his differently abled wife with a grinder machine used for cutting tiles and marble in Sirmadih village under Bharkatta OP area of Birni block in Giridih district, in a crime that came to light on Sunday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Kursi Devi, 55, who had been living with her husband Daulat Sao in Sirmadih village for several years. According to villagers, the couple had been engaged in domestic disputes over a prolonged period and their relationship had been strained for a long time.
The incident is reported to have taken place on Saturday evening. However, family members and neighbours came to know of it only on Sunday morning, after which the matter was reported to the police.
Meanwhile, on receiving information about the murder, the Giridih Superintendent of Police Dr. Bimal Kumar directed Sariya-Bagodar SDPO Dhananjay Kumar to take immediate action. Teams from Birni police station and Bharkatta OP rushed to the spot and launched an investigation. Daulat Sao was arrested promptly.
The body of Kursi Devi has been sent for post-mortem. In addition, police are questioning family members including the deceased’s daughter-in-law to establish the precise motive behind the killing.
On the other hand, villagers have been speculating that an alleged extramarital affair could be a factor in the crime. However, SDPO Dhananjay Kumar said that while initial inquiry had confirmed that the husband had killed his wife, the exact motive — whether an illicit relationship, a domestic dispute, or any other reason — was still being investigated. Two persons, including Daulat Sao, are currently under questioning, and a full disclosure of the case is expected shortly.
Block pramukh Ramu Baitha and deputy pramukh Shekhar visited the site after the news spread, meeting the family and inspecting the scene. Both condemned the killing and demanded the strictest possible action against those responsible.
