JAMSHEDPUR – A 35-year-old man was beaten to death late on Tuesday night at Karandih Line Tola in the Parsudih police station area, allegedly by a man who suspected him of having an illicit relationship with his wife.
The victim was identified as Mohan Soren, a convoy driver originally from Odisha. His brother lives in the Naya Basti area of Sundernagar.
Police arrived at the scene on Wednesday morning after receiving information about the incident. The body was taken into custody and sent for a post-mortem examination.
Moreover, the accused husband, Raju Murmu, was arrested swiftly following the crime. Parsudih police are currently questioning him.
According to information available with the police, Mohan was a frequent visitor to Raju Murmu’s home. He used to address Raju’s wife Savita Murmu as his ‘muh boli mami’, or fictive maternal aunt.
However, Raju had long suspected an illicit relationship between the two. This suspicion had been a source of recurring domestic disputes in the household.
On the night of the incident, Mohan arrived at Raju’s house late at night. A heated argument broke out between Raju, his wife Savita and Mohan.
Raju allegedly assaulted Savita first and drove her out of the house. A frightened Savita left with her two children and spent the night at a neighbour’s house.
Meanwhile, the dispute between Raju and Mohan escalated further inside the house. In a fit of rage, Raju picked up a heavy steel cooking pot and struck Mohan repeatedly.
Mohan sustained severe injuries to his head and other parts of the body. He died on the spot.
On the other hand, Savita returned home the following morning and learnt of the killing. Police recovered the victim’s mobile phone, the blood-stained steel pot and other key evidence from the crime scene.
