Unsafe Boating Raises Concerns at Maithon Dam

Unregulated Speed Boats Put Tourists at Risk

Key Points:

  • Untrained riders operate speed boats without licenses
  • No safety standards or rescue systems in place
  • Tourist rush continues despite rising risks

JAMSHEDPUR – Tourists at Maithon Dam face serious risks as unregulated boating operations continue without safety enforcement.

Maithon Dam in Dhanbad attracts large tourist crowds every year. Visitors come from many states for boating activities.

However, safety systems remain absent at the site. There is no trained rescue team available for emergencies.

Meanwhile, hundreds of boats operate without official approval. Motorboats and speed boats run freely across the dam waters.

Moreover, many operators lack formal training or licenses. They still conduct high-speed rides for tourists.

In contrast, safety guidelines for boating remain undefined. Authorities have not set clear operational standards.

Untrained riders often perform risky stunts on the water. Such actions increase the chance of serious accidents.

Furthermore, tourists unknowingly participate in unsafe rides. Many families visit without awareness of these dangers.

On the other hand, the scenic location continues to attract visitors. People seek leisure and adventure experiences.

However, experts warn that unregulated boating can turn fatal. Poor training and lack of equipment raise concerns.

“Riding without proper training is extremely dangerous,” said a local observer. “Any mistake can lead to tragedy.”

Meanwhile, no monitoring system controls boat operations. This allows inexperienced operators to continue unchecked.

Moreover, past incidents have shown risks of stunt riding. Accidents have occurred due to reckless driving.

In addition, safety gear like life jackets is often missing. Emergency preparedness remains inadequate across the site.

Authorities have yet to enforce strict regulations. Tourists continue to face elevated risks during boating activities.
