JAMSHEDPUR – A wild elephant entered a Chandil village at dawn, damaging homes and crops, leaving residents fearful and facing heavy losses.
A lone elephant entered Gundha village in Chandil range early morning. The incident occurred around 4 a.m.
Meanwhile, villagers were asleep when the animal arrived suddenly. Panic spread quickly across the settlement.
The elephant damaged several houses completely during the rampage. However, four families suffered the worst impact.
The affected residents include Radha Nath Mahato and Krishna Par Mahato. Moreover, Haripad Mahato and Milan Mahato also lost their homes.
The animal also destroyed vegetable crops in nearby fields. In addition, standing produce was trampled, causing major losses.
Villagers rushed out of their homes in fear and confusion. Meanwhile, many left belongings behind to save their lives.
However, residents later gathered and tried to push the elephant away. They used torches and loud noises to scare it.
Eventually, the elephant moved back towards the forest area. In contrast, fear still remains strong among villagers.
Local farmers reported severe economic damage due to the attack. Moreover, repeated incidents have increased tension in rural areas.
Forest officials continue monitoring elephant movement in the region. However, such intrusions are becoming more frequent in Jharkhand.
Human-elephant conflict has risen due to shrinking forest habitats. Meanwhile, crop damage and property loss remain key concerns.
