36.1 mm Recorded, Far Below Normal Levels, Impacting Agriculture

Farmers concerned as lack of rain disrupts paddy cultivation cycle.

SERAIKELA – The Seraikela Kharsawan district has had its lowest June rainfall in 22 years, with only 36.1 mm recorded, which is significantly below the usual levels.

"The amount of rainfall we’re receiving is not enough to meet our farming needs," expressed a local agricultural expert.

The delayed arrival of the monsoon has caused a problem for paddy seedlings as they have been unable to sprout, resulting in dry fields.

"Usually, farmers begin weeding in early July, but due to the absence of rain, this routine has been disrupted," explained a district official.

The amount of rainfall we’ve had this June is about one-fourth of what we usually get, which is worse than last year when we also had less rain than usual.

Farmers are worried about possible crop failures due to the current situation.

A local farmer reported, "We planted paddy seeds hoping for the usual mid-June rains, but they haven’t sprouted yet."

The district’s agricultural output could be significantly affected by this lack of rainfall.

The local authorities are keeping an eye on the situation and thinking about ways to help the farmers.

The unique weather pattern brings attention to larger concerns about the variability of climate in the region.
