Thousands Protest Arrest Of Villager In Dalma Wildlife Case

Tribal Groups Surround Forest Office, Demand Release Of Dantu Singh

Officials promise thorough investigation into alleged wild boar killing incident.

JAMSHEDPUR – Thousands of tribal and indigenous people from several blocks surrounding Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary protested at the Mango forest department office, demanding the release of Dantu Singh, arrested for allegedly killing a wild boar.

The demonstration, organized by the Dalma Van Chhetra Prabhavi Sangharsh Samiti, saw participants from Chandil, Nimdih, Patamda, MGM, and Bodam blocks.

"Dantu Singh is innocent and has been falsely accused," protesters claimed, many wielding traditional weapons.

The protest resulted in a temporary blockade of Mango’s main road, disrupting local traffic.

Ranger Dinesh Chandra attempted to pacify the crowd but faced strong demands for Singh’s immediate release.

"We will conduct a thorough investigation and submit the report as soon as possible," Chandra assured the protesters.

The siege ended after half an hour when officials promised a proper inquiry into the matter.

Notable attendees included JMM leader Sukhram Hembram, former District Council Vice President Devashish Rai, and BJP District General Secretary Madhusudan Gorai.

Dantu Singh was arrested on June 5 and jailed for the alleged killing of a wild boar in the sanctuary.

This incident highlights the ongoing tensions between local communities and wildlife conservation efforts in the region.
