Jharkhand Faces Severe Heatwave, Meteorological Department Issues Alerts
Jharkhand, including the Kolhan region, is currently experiencing an intense heatwave, with temperatures this April breaking historical records. Baharagora reported the highest temperature at a searing 47.1°C this past Tuesday.
JAMSHEDPUR – The state of Jharkhand is grappling with a severe heatwave, with record temperatures noted across various districts including Kolhan.
The highest temperature was recorded in Baharagora, reaching a blistering 47.1°C. In Jamshedpur and Seraikela, the mercury soared to 45.5°C, while Jamtara and Palamu experienced highs of 44.1°C.
Dr. Abhishek Anand, a meteorologist at the Ranchi Center of the Meteorological Department, has forecasted continued severe heat for the next five days, particularly impacting Kolhan and Palamu divisions.
Residents are strongly advised to stay indoors between noon and 3 pm to mitigate the risk of heat-related illnesses.
An orange alert has been issued for a heatwave on Wednesday across several districts including West Singhbhum, East Singhbhum, and Seraikela-Kharsawan. Following this, a yellow alert will be in effect for May 2 and 3, suggesting somewhat less severe conditions.
Relief from the oppressive heat is anticipated post-May 5, with rain expected to bring down temperatures across the state.
