Beheaded Woman’s Body Found in Baliapur Forest, Sparks Human Sacrifice Fears

Dhanbad Police Call FSL, Dog Squad After Grim Forest Discovery

Key Points:

  • Headless body of unidentified woman recovered from Baliapur forest
  • Puja items found near body fuel human sacrifice suspicion locally
  • Ranchi FSL team and dog squad called to probe the scene

DHANBAD – Police in Dhanbad’s Baliapur police station area are investigating the discovery of a headless woman’s body in a forest area on Friday. However, her identity remains unknown so far.

The body was found near Chatniya bridge, close to Madai Than in Dhangi Basti. Meanwhile, the woman’s severed head was recovered separately, sealed inside a plastic sack.

A local resident, Kishore Kumar Mahto, stumbled upon the body while walking into the forest. He then alerted nearby villagers after noticing something unusual near a foot.

Villagers who rushed to the spot found the torso lying exposed. Ashish Mahto subsequently informed the Baliapur police station about the grim discovery.

Officers who arrived at the scene took the body into custody and began their investigation. Besides the torso and head, incense sticks and other puja items were also found nearby.

Locals have linked these puja items to the possibility of human sacrifice. However, police have not confirmed any such theory yet.

According to Baliapur police ASI Ashok Kumar, the woman was likely between 25 and 30 years old. He said, “her identity has not yet been established.”

In addition, police are questioning people living in the surrounding area. This is part of their effort to trace the victim’s identity.

Given the sensitivity of the case, officers have summoned a forensic science laboratory team from Ranchi. A dog squad has also been requested to assist the probe.

Both specialist teams are expected to examine the crime scene for clues. Investigators hope this will help establish how and why the woman died.

The case adds to a string of unresolved crimes across the Dhanbad region this month. Elsewhere in the district, a woman’s skeleton was recently found inside an abandoned coal mine, while ongoing land subsidence incidents have kept residents on edge.

Similar forest-related crimes have also surfaced elsewhere in Jharkhand recently. Police in Jamshedpur earlier solved a separate forest murder case, while investigators in Seraikela cracked another murder mystery involving four arrests.

Meanwhile, another suspicious death case involving a woman is also active in the state, where her family has alleged dowry harassment led to her death.

Only after forensic findings emerge will investigators determine the cause of the woman’s death. Police say identifying the victim remains their immediate priority.
