Ganga, Punpun and Son Overflow Leaves Thousands Marooned

PATNA – Rising water levels in the Ganga, Punpun and Son rivers have left large parts of the city submerged. While the Ganga has flooded urban areas of the capital, the Punpun river has pushed floodwater into the Fatuha assembly constituency as well.
Near Fatuha’s Gauraiya Sthan, an area home to roughly 2,000 people has gone completely underwater. Residents there now find themselves marooned, with no dry route in or out of the locality.
Floodwater has also entered homes and shops across the affected stretch. Families are struggling to keep their belongings safe as water levels continue to climb inside residential buildings.
The flooding has severely disrupted movement in the area. Roads that once connected Fatuha to the rest of the city now lie submerged, forcing residents to find alternate, often unsafe, ways to travel.
Compounding the crisis, no relief material has reached the flood-hit population so far. That absence has fuelled sharp anger among local residents, many of whom say they have been left to fend for themselves.
The flooding in Fatuha comes as authorities across Bihar respond to a wider deluge. The state government has already issued an advisory after river levels rose following floods in Nepal. Separately, officials in the state carried out a broader administrative reshuffle, with 56 officials and 27 police officers reassigned in recent days. In neighbouring Jharkhand, similar concerns have surfaced after a river swept away several people in Saranda, and a related search operation was also reported in Jamshedpur, where the Kharkai and Subarnarekha rivers have also crossed danger levels this monsoon season.
