Eight to Ten Attackers Open Fire Near Gamharia Railway Underpass
Key Points:
- Gorai Hotel operator Vishal Gorai shot near railway underpass at night
- Police collect evidence, scan CCTV footage to identify attackers
- Station in-charge says early probe points to personal rivalry
ADITYAPUR – A hotel operator suffered a bullet injury in his waist when armed men opened fire on him late on Tuesday night.
Eyewitnesses said several rounds were fired at Vishal Gorai. One of the bullets struck him in the waist.
He collapsed on the road immediately after being hit. The assailants then fled from the spot.
However, the number of attackers has been put at eight to ten. None of them has been identified so far.
The firing incident occurred near the railway underpass. The underpass lies close to Gamharia railway station.
Gorai runs Gorai Hotel and was returning home at the time. Local residents informed the Adityapur police soon afterwards.
Meanwhile, a police team reached the site and shifted him to hospital. His treatment was continuing there.
Besides, the police cordoned off the entire area later. Evidence has been gathered from the scene.
CCTV footage from the neighbourhood is also being examined. The exercise is meant to identify the assailants.
Anjani Kumar Singh, the Adityapur police station in-charge, spoke on the probe. “The early findings point to a personal rivalry behind the attack,” he said.
He added that all other angles were being kept in view. Raids are on at the likely hideouts of the accused.
Moreover, the police have claimed an early breakthrough in the case. They said the guilty would be arrested soon.
In addition, the shooting on a busy road has alarmed local traders. Ordinary residents have also been left uneasy.
People of the area have sought heavier police patrolling at night. They have demanded firm action against the criminals as well.
On the other hand, Adityapur has seen such attacks earlier too. A youth was shot dead in the area in 2022.
Adityapur falls in the Seraikela-Kharsawan district and adjoins Jamshedpur. The town houses one of the largest industrial estates in Jharkhand.
