- Locals Save Goods From Nearby Shops in Time
- Cause of Fire, Full Losses Yet to Be Confirmed
ADITYAPUR – A fire tore through a mattress shop near Akashvani Kendra in Seraikela-Kharsawan district late Thursday night, gutting goods worth lakhs of rupees.
Adityapur police reached the spot soon after being alerted. They launched relief and rescue operations at the site.
A fire brigade team also arrived and fought the blaze. However, firefighters faced a tough struggle to control the flames.
The firefighting operation continued well into the night. Meanwhile, the exact cause of the fire remained unknown.
The blaze broke out late Thursday night in Adityapur. It started at a shop selling cotton mattresses near Akashvani Kendra.
The shop is located in the Seraikela-Kharsawan district. Witnesses said smoke and flames rose around 11 p.m.
The shop stored large quantities of cotton and other flammable material. As a result, the fire spread rapidly through it.
Besides, the flames spread to a few neighboring shops as well. This triggered panic among people in the surrounding area.
However, local residents acted quickly to limit the damage. They removed goods from several shops before the fire reached them.
“We managed to save some goods, but the fire spread fast,” said a local shopkeeper. Their timely action prevented an even bigger loss.
Officials estimated the damage at several lakh rupees. Mattresses, cotton stock and other goods were destroyed.
Moreover, Adityapur and nearby areas have seen a string of similar blazes recently. A tent godown fire in Bhuiyandih was reported earlier this year.
In addition, a tyre godown fire broke out near Jugsalai in December. A factory fire was also reported earlier this year in the city.
On the other hand, a warehouse fire had gutted goods in Jamshedpur in April. The district administration had earlier ordered a fire safety audit following a tragedy in Goa.
Police and administration are now investigating the cause of this fire. The shop owner has been informed of the incident.
The full extent of the loss remains unclear for now. Officials said clarity would emerge only after the investigation ends.
