Meteorological Department Warns of Thunderstorms Across State

RANCHI – Jharkhand is bracing for a fresh spell of monsoon rainfall, with the weather department forecasting heavy showers across 11 districts of the state on Sunday.
Officials said thunderstorms and lightning are also likely to strike several regions during the same period. Meteorologists attributed the surge in rainfall activity to continuous moisture being drawn in from the Bay of Bengal.
This moisture influx, they said, has allowed the monsoon to become active throughout the state. Forecasters added that rainfall intensity could rise further in the coming days as conditions remain favourable.
Residents in the districts expected to receive heavy rain have been advised to stay alert. Low-lying areas could see waterlogging, while rivers and drains may witness a rise in water levels because of intense showers.
However, the rainfall has brought relief for farmers across the state. Adequate moisture is expected to support paddy sowing and other kharif crop operations this season.
“The rain has come at the right time for our fields,” said a farmer from one of the affected districts. Officials echoed similar optimism about the agricultural benefits of the spell.
Meanwhile, the weather department appealed to people to avoid stepping out unnecessarily during inclement weather. It also asked residents to refrain from taking shelter under trees or in open fields when conditions turn severe.
People were further advised to stay in safe locations during lightning strikes. The state administration, too, remained on alert in view of the possible rainfall and incidents of lightning.
Weather experts said intermittent rain is likely to continue across most parts of Jharkhand over the next few days. Besides bringing relief from humid conditions, the spell is expected to push temperatures down.
In addition, the India Meteorological Department has classified Jharkhand among the states receiving above-normal monsoon activity this season, consistent with the broader pattern of increased rainfall across eastern India.
