The incident occurred at Sampra Bridge on Monday afternoon. The bridge lies between Adityapur and Kapali police station limits.

A young man riding a scooty stopped on the bridge. He then leaped directly into the Swarnarekha River.

Police from Adityapur and Kapali reached the site quickly. Meanwhile, local divers were called for rescue efforts.

Divers searched the river immediately after the alert. However, the youth was found unresponsive.

He was identified as Varun, a resident of Tamolia. Family members rushed to the bridge after receiving information.

Witnesses said he arrived on a black scooty. The vehicle bore registration number JH05CU-8657.

He parked the scooter on the bridge. Then he jumped into the river without hesitation.

A large crowd gathered on the bridge soon after. Meanwhile, relatives broke down at the scene.
