JAMSHEDPUR – American sprinter Kenny Bednarek becomes International Event Ambassador for Tata Steel World 25K Kolkata 2025 milestone edition.

Procam International announced the appointment on Wednesday. The 27-year-old athlete holds multiple Olympic medals. He won silver in 200m at Tokyo 2020.

He repeated the feat at Paris 2024. Bednarek also secured gold and silver at 2025 World Championships in Tokyo. The race takes place on December 21.

The Wisconsin-born sprinter overcame difficult beginnings. He was abandoned at birth. Moreover, he faced a challenging childhood before adoption. However, his determination led him to elite athletics.

“Life has taught me that the journey matters,” Bednarek stated. He added that every race builds character. Furthermore, he expressed excitement about Kolkata’s sporting passion. The city’s focus on community health resonates with him.

His personal records showcase exceptional speed. He clocked 9.79 seconds in 100m during 2025. In addition, he ran 200m in 19.57 seconds in 2024. He also completed 400m in 44.73 seconds in 2019.

D. B. Sundara Ramam welcomed the association. The Tata Steel Vice President praised Bednarek’s resilience. “His journey personifies consistent effort,” Ramam said. The values align with Tata Steel’s ethos.

The World Athletics Gold Label designation affirmed Kolkata’s status. The city now holds a prominent global running position. On the other hand, organizers hope to inspire more fitness participation.

Vivek Singh highlighted the milestone anniversary. The Procam International Joint Managing Director emphasized a decade of difference. “Kenny embodies resilience and grace,” Singh noted. His presence will inspire the running community deeply.

Previous ambassadors have included prominent sports personalities. This year marks the tenth consecutive edition. However, it remains the world’s first Gold Label 25K race.

The event celebrates community through sport. It promotes inclusivity and human spirit. Meanwhile, thousands of runners participate annually. Local athletes have excelled in previous editions.

Bednarek will visit Kolkata for the event. He plans to encourage participants directly. In addition, he will celebrate their determination. The ambassador role extends beyond mere presence.

Past races have set world records. The course attracts elite international runners. Furthermore, it maintains highest technical standards. Organizers continue upgrading facilities each year.
