Key Points:
- Burglary reported in Vijaya Garden, Baridih under Birsanagar police station
- Gold ornaments worth ₹60 lakh and ₹15,000 cash stolen
- Police begin probe; similar thefts reported earlier in the same building
JAMSHEDPUR – A major daylight burglary shocked the Vijaya Garden apartment complex in Baridih on Thursday, as thieves broke into two flats and escaped with valuables worth lakhs.
According to reports, the thieves first attempted to break open a flat on the sixth floor but failed. However, they later targeted the locked flat of teacher Nidhi Singh on the eighth floor.
Police said the burglars stole jewellery worth around ₹50–60 lakh along with ₹15,000 in cash. The flat owner, Nidhi Singh, teaches at Telco Valley View School. She had left for work at the time of the theft, while her children were at school.
When she returned home, she found the main door lock broken. Inside, all room locks had been smashed, and gold ornaments along with cash were missing.
Her husband stated that thefts had occurred in the same apartment complex about a year ago when three to four flats were looted.
Meanwhile, Birsanagar police have launched an investigation and are examining CCTV footage to trace the culprits. A resident said, “Thefts have become frequent here, and security needs tightening.”
A similar concern was recently reported in Rising Theft Wave, which highlighted growing insecurity across the city. Even during important celebrations, residents expressed fears of increasing thefts.
Earlier, another burglary in the same area prompted police assurances of stricter patrolling, yet incidents persist in Baridih and Sidhgora.
