Emergency Exercise Tests Railway Preparedness Amid Chaos
Key Points:

- Railway organized mock drill simulating a train accident
- NDRF and Civil Defence teams participated in the exercise
JAMSHEDPUR – Chaos erupted at Chakradharpur Railway Station on Friday morning when a loud siren and dense smoke filled the air, triggering panic among passengers.
People rushed in confusion, thinking a real accident had occurred. However, officials soon clarified that it was only a mock drill to test emergency readiness. The simulation involved a staged train accident scenario, where passengers were rescued by cutting through windows.
Meanwhile, those rescued were given first aid at a temporary medical camp set up on-site. Civil Defence, NDRF 9th Battalion, Bharat Scouts and Guides, and multiple railway departments including engineering, operations, medical, and commercial units took part in the coordinated exercise.
On the other hand, senior officers such as DRM Tarun Huria and ADRM Vinay Hembrom closely monitored the entire operation. According to railway officials, such drills are essential to maintain preparedness for any real emergencies.
“The aim is to ensure quick and effective response in disaster situations,” said a source at the station. Moreover, the railway administration emphasized that these exercises help evaluate coordination among different departments during crisis response.
