Illegal Liquor Distillery Busted Near Swarnrekha River in Ghatshila

Excise Team Destroys 750 kg Fermented Material Ahead of By-Election

Key Points:

  • Raid conducted at Ratmuhan site under SDO and excise commissioner’s orders
  • 25 liters of distilled liquor seized during anti-illegal brewing operation
  • Case being registered under relevant Excise Act provisions against operators

JAMSHEDPUR – Excise officials raided an illegal liquor distillery near Swarnrekha river ahead of Ghatshila by-election on October 9.

The operation was conducted under Sub-Divisional Officer Ghatshila’s directive. Assistant Commissioner Excise for Purbi Singhbhum also issued instructions. Moreover, Excise Inspector Ramdas Bhagat supervised the entire raid.

The illegal brewing unit operated at Ratmuhan along the riverbank. Officials discovered a functioning distillery during the crackdown. However, operators fled before the team arrived at the site.

Approximately 750 kilograms of fermented mahua was destroyed during the raid. The team also seized 25 liters of distilled liquor. In addition, equipment used for brewing was confiscated from the premises.

A case is being registered against the distillery operators. Charges will be filed under relevant Excise Act sections. Furthermore, authorities are identifying the individuals running the illegal operation.

The excise department launched the drive ahead of the by-election. Such operations aim to curb illegal liquor trade during polls. Besides, officials want to ensure free and fair electoral process.

Mo Gufran, Assistant Excise Inspector, participated in the raid. Deputed district police force members also joined the team. Meanwhile, home guards provided additional support during the operation.

Authorities confirmed the anti-illegal liquor campaign will continue. More raids are planned across the constituency. On the other hand, officials are monitoring other suspected brewing locations.

Illegal country liquor production remains a persistent problem in rural areas. Mahua-based brewing thrives along river belts during this season. However, enforcement drives intensify during election periods to maintain law and order.
