Anurekha Ghosh Dance Company Presents “Laal Bindi” at Sovabazar Rajbari

KOLKATA – The historic Sovabazar Rajbari Natmandir in Kolkata hosted Reflecting Shakti, a grand evening of devotion, dance, and storytelling led by Anurekha Ghosh Dance Company with Natmandir.

The event celebrated the triumph of Goddess Durga over Mahishasura. It symbolized the enduring power of good over evil. The program began with a devotional invocation by vocalist Priyasmita Ghosh.

Guest performers enriched the opening segment. Anisha Mondal performed Odissi pieces “Durga Dhyan Mantra” and “Durga Stuti”. Aklanta Majumder followed with “Durga Tumi Themo Na”.

The highlight of the evening was “Laal Bindi”. The production featured 32 disciples of Anurekha Ghosh. The performance fused Kathak, contemporary dance, martial arts, and visual projections.

The red bindi motif symbolized power, insight, and divine presence. It connected mythology with present-day womanhood. The choreography depicted courage, sacrifice, sensuality, motherhood, and activism.

Concept, choreography, and direction were led by Anurekha Ghosh. Additional choreographic inputs came from Debojit Mukherjee, Ankita Das, Devleena Lahiri, and Rishita Moitra.

The music combined recorded works and live performances. Contributions came from Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta, Srabasti Ghosh, Trishit Chowdhury, Dohar, Devjit Roy, and Monami Ghosh. Live music was performed by Sunando Mukherjee on composition, Subir Thakur and Pratik Mukherjee on tabla, Bikash Sadhukhan on keyboard, Subhasis Sarkar on percussion, and vocals by Priyasmita Ghosh.

The script was written by Anushila Ghosh. Lights were managed by Uttiya Jana, sound by Hashi Panchal, set design by Suman Adhikary, and visual projection by Rishita Moitra. Recording and mixing were handled by Koushik Som.

The production featured disciples including Devleena Lahiri, Ankita Das, Purba Biswas, Rishita Moitra, Shreyasree Mondal, and others.

Further performances included Sejutee Guha Roy presenting “Subhra Shankha Robe”. Puspak Dance Academy led by Alokparna Guha staged “Speak Out”. Kathak exponent Durga Arya concluded the program with Durga Vandana, laya work, and a thumri.

Anurekha Ghosh Dance Company and Natmandir also felicitated leading artists and contributors. Honored figures included Vidushi Durga Arya, Polly Guha, Rina Jana, Alokparna Guha, Sunando Mukherjee, Pratik Mukherjee, Priyasmita Ghosh, and others.
