Govindpur Water Supply Scheme Faces Anger Over Frequent Disruptions

Delegation Meets DC, Demands Transfer of Project to JUSCO

Key Points:

  • 21 panchayats suffer repeated water supply interruptions in Jamshedpur
  • Delegation led by Dr. Paritosh Singh demands JUSCO takeover
  • Contractor cites ₹3 crore dues as reason for disruption

JAMSHEDPUR – The Govindpur water supply scheme has come under sharp criticism after repeated disruptions left thousands without regular drinking water.

On Tuesday, a delegation of panchayat representatives, led by Zilla Parishad member Dr. Paritosh Singh, met the Deputy Commissioner. They highlighted irregularities and demanded that JUSCO be handed responsibility for operations.

Representatives said that around 21 panchayats are facing interruptions almost every month. They pointed to problems such as leaking pipelines, damaged intake wells, incomplete household connections, lack of records for older connections, and unsafe drinking water supply.

Dr. Singh alleged that corruption plagued the project from the beginning, with mismanagement of government funds. The delegation suggested transferring the scheme to JUSCO, arranging consumer billing, and holding tripartite talks for a permanent solution.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the Block Development Officer to organize a tripartite meeting at the earliest.

Meanwhile, contractor Arun Singh of Gemini Enterprises said the administration owed the firm around ₹3 crore for the past 19 months. “We cannot pay staff or buy chemicals without payment. I had to stop supply due to financial pressure. If this continues, we cannot run the scheme,” he said.
