Three Cattle Die, One Rescued in Potka During Trafficking Attempt

Police Seize Bolero With Tied Cattle, Traffickers Flee Scene

Key Points:

  • Police recover four cattle from abandoned Bolero near Gitilata village
  • Three animals found dead, one rescued in critical condition
  • Locals angry over repeated cattle smuggling incidents in the area

JAMSHEDPUR – A shocking case of cattle trafficking was exposed early Monday in Potka’s Gitilata village, where police recovered four cattle crammed inside a Bolero vehicle.

The vehicle, bearing registration number OR 11E-8745, was abandoned by traffickers after it broke down en route from Dundu in Odisha to Jamshedpur. Police reached the spot after locals heard noises from inside the vehicle and raised an alarm.

On inspection, three bulls were found dead, while a fourth was discovered in a critical state. Locals said the traffickers had stuffed the cattle into the small vehicle and tied their legs and tongues with thick ropes, leading to suffocation and fatal injuries.

The surviving bull was freed with the help of villagers and police. The incident triggered outrage among residents, who alleged that cattle smuggling has been rampant in the region but strict action has been lacking.

Meanwhile, police have seized the vehicle and launched a search for the traffickers who managed to flee the scene.
