Key Points:

  • Nageshwar Jaina held captive and beaten overnight by neighbors in Namo Tola
  • Suman Mahapatro’s family acts on tantric’s claim about witchcraft involvement
  • Parsudih police rescue victim and detain three suspects for investigation

JAMSHEDPUR – A 40-year-old man was assaulted by neighbors who suspected him of witchcraft following a tantric’s advice in Parsudih area’s Namo Tola.

Nageshwar Jaina, resident of Ashram Para, became victim of mob violence. His neighbor Suman Mahapatro had been experiencing repeated thefts. However, the situation escalated after consulting a tantric practitioner.

The tantric allegedly identified Jaina as responsible for supernatural activities. Moreover, he claimed Jaina was causing the theft incidents. On the other hand, the family believed these accusations completely.

Mahapatro’s family attacked Jaina’s house causing significant damage. They then dragged him to their residence. Furthermore, they tied him up and beat him throughout the night.

Jaina’s relatives informed Parsudih police about the incident. Meanwhile, officers responded quickly to rescue the victim. In addition, they arrested three people involved in the assault.

Police rescued Jaina from his neighbors’ captivity successfully. The victim had sustained injuries from prolonged beating. However, he was freed before more serious harm occurred.

Three suspects are currently in police custody. Investigations are ongoing to determine complete facts. Moreover, officers are examining the tantric’s role in inciting violence.

Police officials confirmed the arrests when questioned. However, they declined to provide detailed statements on camera. On the other hand, they assured thorough investigation of the matter.

Such incidents highlight dangerous superstitious beliefs in communities. Witchcraft accusations often lead to serious violence. Furthermore, vulnerable individuals become targets of mob justice based on unfounded claims.
