MLA Saryu Roy Flags Slow Sewerage Work in Sonari Areas

Letter to Tata Steel UISL MD Highlights Waterlogging and Health Issues

Key Points:

  • Amrita Apartment faces flooding due to incomplete sewerage construction
  • Gandhi Road excavation left unfinished causing traffic disruptions
  • Nirmal Basti Jahira Colony residents struggling with water entering homes

JAMSHEDPUR – Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy has written to Tata Steel UISL’s managing director expressing serious concerns about delayed sewerage construction work causing waterlogging and movement difficulties for local residents.

Roy highlighted multiple affected areas where incomplete construction is creating significant problems. However, the slow pace of work has left communities struggling with health hazards. Moreover, residents are facing severe inconvenience during monsoon seasons.

Company’s Infrastructure Expansion Plans

Tata Steel UISL has announced a Rs 300 crore investment plan for enhancing Jamshedpur’s civic amenities. In addition, the company recently inaugurated sewage pumping stations at Patel Nagar and Jai Prabha Complex. Furthermore, these facilities have a combined capacity of 800 kiloliters per day.

The company aims to achieve 70% sewerage coverage across its service areas. Meanwhile, several new sewage treatment plants are under construction in different localities. Besides this, UISL has established water treatment plants in Ramadhin Bagan and Bhuinyadih areas.

Affected Areas and Specific Issues

Amrita Apartment residents are experiencing severe waterlogging due to unfinished sewerage work. On the other hand, rainwater is entering apartment premises making living conditions extremely difficult. However, contractors have failed to complete the drainage system properly.

Nirmal Basti’s Jahira Colony faces similar challenges with extremely slow construction progress. Nevertheless, rainwater continues infiltrating homes during every monsoon spell. Furthermore, residents report deteriorating sanitation conditions throughout the area.

Critical Gandhi Road Situation

Gandhi Road presents the most severe situation with excavated pits left unattended. Meanwhile, contractors dug holes and abandoned them without proper restoration work. In contrast, this has created traffic jam-like conditions for commuters daily.

However, pedestrians face significant difficulties navigating around these dangerous excavations. Moreover, the unfinished work poses safety risks for vehicles and foot traffic. Additionally, local businesses are suffering due to reduced customer accessibility.

MLA’s Appeal for Swift Action

Roy emphasized the urgent need for systematic and rapid completion of construction work. Furthermore, he appealed to Tata Steel UISL to direct contractors for accelerated progress. On the other hand, the MLA stressed resolving continuous public inconvenience through proper coordination.

The letter specifically requests immediate intervention to address the mounting health concerns. However, Roy also highlighted the need for better project management and timeline adherence. Besides this, he suggested regular monitoring of contractor performance across all sites.
