Rail Ministry Survey Complete, DPR for 160 km Track Awaited

Key Points:

  • Ministry plans rail links to Gumla, Khunti, Simdega and Chatra
  • Project part of Rs 6,500 crore multi-state railway expansion
  • JRIDCL submits preliminary survey to Railway Board for review

RANCHI – The Ministry of Railways has initiated plans to connect four districts in Jharkhand with rail networks.

The preliminary survey covers 160 kilometers of new tracks. Meanwhile, JRIDCL has submitted the report to Railway Board.

Moreover, Gumla will get a 55-kilometer connection from Lohardaga. The rail link will extend 43 kilometers to Simdega.

Project Details

Hatia will connect to Khunti through a 20-kilometer track. However, Chatra’s link will join the Ranchi-Hazaribagh route.

“This connectivity will transform local transportation,” noted a railway official. The project emerged from a Union Cabinet decision in August 2024.

Regional Impact

The expansion covers multiple states including Odisha and Chhattisgarh. Additionally, West Bengal will benefit from this development.

On the other hand, these districts currently rely on roads. The new rail network will boost economic growth.

“Local residents eagerly await this historic development,” remarked a community leader. The project will enhance access to major cities.
