Promotion of Doctors at MGM Hospital Fails to Reduce Surgery Delays

Patient Backlog Continues Despite Promotions at MGM Hospital

Patients at MGM Hospital Are Facing Long Delays for Surgeries, Despite New Promotions and Staff Increases.

Key Points:

  • Surgical Delays Persist at MGM Hospital, Frustrating Patients.
  • Orthopedics and Ophthalmology Departments Are Particularly Impacted.
  • Staff Promotions Have Not Resolved Operation Scheduling Issues.

JAMSHEDPUR – Patients at MGM Hospital continue to experience long waits for surgical procedures, despite recent promotions among the medical staff and an increase in available doctors. Key departments, including Orthopedics and Ophthalmology, are grappling with backlogs, forcing many patients to wait weeks for their operations.

The Orthopedics department has seen cases like that of Fanibhushan, who was admitted on December 5 for a hip replacement surgery. His operation only took place on January 8 due to scheduling delays. Similarly, Sonu Singh, admitted on December 4, had to wait over a month for his surgery. Meanwhile, Vinod Poddar has been awaiting a hand operation for 17 days, scheduled only for this Wednesday. Newly admitted patient Babul Oraon remains uncertain about when his leg surgery will occur.

Ophthalmology Department’s Challenges

The Ophthalmology department has also faced operational hurdles. Department head Dr. Ajoy Kumar disclosed that a finger injury has temporarily prevented him from performing surgeries. He noted a backlog of 15 patients, assuring that procedures will resume soon. Despite two other doctors in the department, patient admissions have been halted, exacerbating the delays.

Surgical Department’s Struggles

The Surgical department, performing the highest number of daily procedures, also faces a week-long waitlist for new cases. Dr. H.R. Khan, the department head, explained that the transfer of four assistant professors and the promotion of one doctor to principal have strained resources. He emphasized the team’s efforts to manage operations efficiently but acknowledged the limitations.

The prolonged delays highlight the urgent need for enhanced coordination and resource allocation to meet the increasing patient demand.
