Jharkhand’s Path to Progress in 2025: Development, Sustainability, and Social Justice

Jharkhand Seeks Balanced Growth in 2025 with Plans for Development, Sustainable Practices, and Empowering Its Indigenous Communities

Jharkhand prepares for 2025 with ambitions of becoming a developed state, aiming for economic growth, forest conservation, and resolving critical social and environmental issues.

Jharkhand is on a crucial stage as of now. 2024 has seen a stable government formation and now Jharkhand looks at 2025 with hopes to find itself among the developed states.

As per India State Forest Report 2023, Jharkhand has witnessed a humble forest growth of 0.05%.

Without compromising on its forest cover new developmental schemes are needed to be made by the stakeholders to remove the old saying that despite Jharkhand being a mineral-rich state, it is a poor state.

Not just the new allotment of mines-lease but Jharkhand has several possibilities to bring it in the forefront besides the already developed states of India.

The presence of hills, forests, fountains along with the large wildlife has a promising layout for touristic opportunities. This would prompt the development of the areas lying behind the process of progression.

The indigenous communities who form the majority of the population still harbor the traditional knowledge of handicrafts and musical instruments.

This learning can be brought into the mainstream by bridging the gap with the establishment of programs on the lines of art exhibitions like ‘Silent Conversation: From Margins to the Centre’ held in New Delhi. The frequent local occurrences of these can propagate more participation of local artisans.

The above endeavours can further strengthen the implementation of the Forest Rights Act(2006) and thus grant the righteous forest rights to the entitled forest dwellers along with added provisions for their economic upliftment.

Jharkhand suffers from the scarcity of water in many areas. The surface water leaves the Jharkhand soil due to its geographic location.

Also the low groundwater availability, water contamination containing fluoride, arsenic, or iron from industrial and mining operations are serious issues in need of attention.

To stop the inter-state and abroad exodus of young talents in the form of students, players, job-seekers or job-holders Jharkhand needs to develop education and employment strategies.

Establishment of government funded educational institutions, sports academies in diverse locations can make them easily accessible to one and all despite the socio-economic conditions of their respective families.

The alarming drop-out rate of Jharkhand schools needs to be addressed with better planning and initiatives should be taken to reabsorb the students back in the schools.

The lack of better road infrastructure contributes to several complexities. In case of any emergency more on-road time leads to adverse results such as any serious patient’s journey to a health facility or a student losing out on exam time, or the students reaching late at the education centers.

This also results in more fuel consumption to reach the destination. The worthless investment on the on-road timing by commuters can be used in other productive ways.

The mining operations in the rural settlements or the mine-areas and the industrialization of the urban areas have begun to deteriorate the air, water quality of various locations of Jharkhand. Stringent actions against the industries hampering the sustainable environment goals can crackdown the illegally blooming industries.

The noise and the light pollution is affecting the entire ecological system. The nocturnal animals and common day non-human species face adverse effects due to heavy lightning and fireworks either in the name of progress or the never-ending festivities of our mixed culture.

The drive to remove the gender based violence and gender inequality has to be implemented with more aggressiveness and circulated to reach the most remote constituencies of Jharkhand. The judicial system’s impartiality while giving out final verdicts irrespective of caste, socio-economic status, gender can instill the people’s beliefs that no perpetrators can get away without getting punished.

Towards the last quarter of this year a sudden surge of witch-hunting phenomenon has taken the lives of several locals. This social injustice whose roots have come over the age-old taboo has taken a new turn with the temporal motives behind it.

More strict laws are needed to be executed with urgency to eradicate it before another news of atrocity makes way to become another headline.

Jharkhand has another year before it. With time new, unexpected predicaments are to rise but all the issues that are in wait for solutions should be given serious consideration for the welfare of the state as a whole.
