JAMSHEDPUR – A two-day international conference commenced at DBMS College of Education on Saturday, focusing on the theme, “Harnessing the Power of Education to Adopt and Promote Green Initiatives.”
Key Highlights from Day One
The event, sponsored by Tata Steel, aimed to spread awareness about environmental conservation and pollution control among students. Secretary Mrs. Sripriya Dharmarajan delivered the welcome address, followed by Pamela Ghosh Dutta summarizing the day’s events.
The conference opened with a presentation by Dr. Ashesh from the World Bank for Class IX students of DBMS Kadma School. Tata Steel UISL demonstrated the use of solar energy for power generation, explaining its three systems: on-grid, off-grid, and hybrid.
Students from Ghoramara Island, Sundarbans, shared their challenges due to climate change in Bengali. Meanwhile, Deepika and Srikant from House of Gronest, Coimbatore, introduced bio-enzymes, eco-friendly cleaning products made from fermented fruit peels, sugar, or jaggery.
Environmental Solutions and Initiatives
Deepak Soni from Koru Foundation highlighted Zero Waste and Amplifying Community Voices projects through video, advocating for integrating climate change topics into school curriculums. Junior Carmel College students explained sustainable development goals, while Surdeep Natural Paint demonstrated how natural paint is made using cow dung.
Ramesh Chandra from Kolkata’s Vinisha shared his experience of raising environmental awareness among school children. The conference followed the Reduce, Recycle, and Reuse methodology and maintained a zero-waste policy. DBMS English School students performed a dance based on the Panchtatva.
Recognizing Talent and Contributions
Awards for the best research papers were presented to Kanchan Kumari, Angela Munda, Rashika Dadiyala, Natasha Mary Joseph, Rana Surya Mukherjee, and Diksha Kumari. Class IX students Saurabh and Siddhi also received awards. Tata Steel’s Chief Dileep and Anand evaluated the entries.
Chief Guest for the closing session on Day Two, Nandan Mall, CEO of Hulladek, was introduced by Principal Dr. Juhi Samarpita, who announced that DBMS College also serves as an e-waste collection center.
Kolhan University’s CVC Dr. Sanjeev Anand congratulated DBMS for being ranked among the top 10 B.Ed. colleges in the country. “This is a moment of pride for Kolhan University,” he stated.
Gratitude and Event Conclusion
Dr. Monica Uppal delivered the vote of thanks, appreciating Chairperson Lalitha Chandrasekhar, President B. Chandrasekhar, Secretary Sripriya Dharmarajan, Co-Secretary Sudha Dileep, and Principal Dr. Juhi Samarpita for their contributions. She also thanked Sudip Pramanik, Lalit Kishore, Abhijeet Virendra Pandey, Julian Anthony, Pankaj Tapan, Sunita, Sujata, and other staff members.
The event concluded with praises from Patron Mrs. Bhanumati Neelakantan and the national anthem. The two-day conference was anchored by Mrs. Anjali Ganesan, with volunteer students receiving certificates for their efforts.
