JAMSHEDPUR – Mango police have arrested Govind Sharma and his associate Gopal Sahu for allegedly manufacturing and selling firearms illegally from Sharma’s home. Sharma is a resident of Daiguttu Road Number Five, and his wife holds a position in the BJP as a Mandal office bearer.

Police Raid and Seizures

A police team led by Mango Police Station in-charge Niranjan Kumar conducted a raid at Sharma’s residence based on a confidential tip. They recovered one pistol and various tools, including hammers, chisels, punches, and other items used to assemble weapons.

DSP (Headquarters-I) Bhola Prasad Singh reported that Sharma had been arrested in 2018 for similar offenses and had resumed illegal activities after being released on bail. During the investigation, police discovered that Sharma had taken an advance payment of ₹2,000 to sell the seized pistol for ₹40,000.

Sting Operation Details

An informant, acting as a buyer, approached Sharma as part of the operation. Sharma shared a picture of the pistol he was preparing to sell. The informant also ordered 10 country-made firearms, but Sharma agreed to make only four for ₹5,000 each.

Police first apprehended Gopal Sahu, who provided leads resulting in Sharma’s arrest. A subsequent search of Sharma’s house led to the recovery of weapons and equipment used in their manufacturing.

Prior Arrest and Current Investigation

Govind Sharma was previously jailed in 2018 for manufacturing illegal weapons. Following his release on bail, he returned to producing and selling firearms. Police have registered a case against the duo, and further investigations are ongoing.
