Hemant Soren to Assume Jharkhand CM Role for Fourth Term

New cabinet to feature at least five fresh faces; coalition partners to finalize ministerial nominees.

Key Points:

  • Hemant Soren to be sworn in as Jharkhand CM for the fourth time.

  • At least five new ministers expected in the upcoming cabinet.

  • Coalition partners to decide their respective ministerial candidates.

RANCHI – Hemant Soren is set to be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand for the fourth time.

The new cabinet is anticipated to include at least five new ministers.

On Monday, Soren held extensive discussions with his trusted aides at the Chief Minister’s residence regarding the cabinet formation.

Prior to this, deliberations were conducted with leaders of coalition partners.

The coalition comprises the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), and the Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation (CPI(ML)).

The Congress and RJD are expected to finalize their ministerial candidates through their respective high commands.

The CPI(ML) has yet to make a definitive decision on joining the cabinet.

If the left party becomes part of the cabinet, it would mark the first direct participation of a leftist party in the Jharkhand government.

According to constitutional provisions, Jharkhand can have a maximum of 12 ministers, including the Chief Minister.

The coalition’s composition includes 34 MLAs from JMM, 14 from Congress, 4 from RJD, and 2 from CPI(ML).

Sources suggest that the cabinet may comprise 6 ministers from JMM, 3 or 4 from Congress, 1 or 2 from RJD, and potentially 1 from CPI(ML).

Potential ministerial candidates from JMM include Louis Marandi (Jama), Stephen Marandi (Maheshpur), Mathura Mahato (Tundi), Anant Pratap Deo (Bhawanathpur), and Deepak Birua (Chaibasa).

Ramdas Soren (Ghatshila) is also likely to be reappointed as a minister.

From the Congress, probable ministers are Rameshwar Oraon (Lohardaga), Pradeep Yadav (Poreyahat), Deepika Pandey Singh (Mahagama), and Anoop Singh (Bermo).

The RJD is considering Suresh Paswan (Deoghar) for a ministerial position.

If consensus on all names is not reached by November 28, Hemant Soren may take the oath along with 2-3 ministers initially.

The first cabinet meeting is being planned thereafter, where several significant decisions are expected to be made.
