JAMSHEDPUR – In response to the rising cases of diarrhea in Shukla village located in the Patmada block of Jamshedpur, the health department has taken proactive measures to ensure public safety.
On November 19, health officials collected water samples from various blocks and sent them to the MGM Medical College laboratory for analysis.
The results, received on Friday, confirmed the presence of Enterococcus faecalis bacteria in the water supply.
Enterococcus faecalis is a type of bacteria commonly found in the gastrointestinal tract.
While it is typically harmless within the intestines, its presence in drinking water can lead to health issues, including diarrhea.
In light of these findings, the health department has issued an advisory recommending that residents boil water before consumption to eliminate potential pathogens.
Additionally, a formal communication has been sent to the Drinking Water and Sanitation Department, urging them to ensure the provision of safe drinking water to the affected communities.
Dr. Asad, the district epidemiologist, explained, "Enterococci are a group of bacteria that naturally reside in the gastrointestinal tract.
There are at least 18 different species, with Enterococcus faecalis being one of the most common.
These bacteria are resilient and can survive in various environments, including warm, salty, or acidic conditions."
The health department continues to monitor the situation closely and advises residents to adhere to the recommended precautions to prevent further health complications.
