PALAMU – A chilling case of betrayal unfolded in Ghasidag village, Bishrampur, as a man murdered his nephew and abandoned the body in a forest.
The body of 14-year-old Ajay Singh was discovered in a decomposed state on November 18, five days after his disappearance. Police recovered the corpse stuffed in a sack near banana trees behind the victim’s grandfather’s house.
According to investigators, Ajay lived with his maternal grandfather, Somar Singh Kharwar, after his parents separated. His mother remarried four years ago, while Ajay stayed in his maternal village.
Tensions arose due to the accused maternal uncle, Lala Singh Kharwar, believing Ajay would inherit family land. Ajay’s mother, Sugiya Devi, and elder maternal uncle, Brijmohan Singh, informed the police that Lala frequently threatened to kill the boy.
Ajay went missing on November 14. Following days of unsuccessful searches, a foul smell from the nearby forest led villagers to notify the police.
Police have filed a murder case against Lala Singh, who has been absconding since the incident. “Efforts are underway to locate and arrest the suspect,” said Chandan Kumar, Officer-in-Charge of Nawadih OP.
The body has been sent for forensic examination at RIMS after an autopsy in Medininagar. The case highlights the devastating consequences of family disputes and land conflicts in rural areas.
