JAMSHEDPUR – A brick kiln owner, Ajit Singh, was shot and injured on November 13 in Rahargoda, Govindpur, after refusing to pay extortion money demanded by local criminals.
The incident took place at around 8:30 PM when two assailants fired multiple rounds, hitting Singh twice in his right hand.
The injured Singh managed to escape and hide in a room at the kiln, while the gunmen fled the scene.
Singh was immediately rushed to Tata Main Hospital (TMH), where he is undergoing treatment.
An FIR has been lodged at the Parsudih police station against Bharat Kamat, his cousin Bittu Kamat, and Vikas Kamat, all residents of Jojobera.
According to Singh, the trouble began on November 11 when Bharat Kamat demanded ₹50,000 at Jojobera Chowk.
Singh declined, stating he couldn’t pay immediately but might consider it post-election.
On November 12, Bharat made another call, which Singh ignored.
The next day, Bharat called again, warning Singh that two boys would visit him to collect the money.
Around 8:30 PM on November 13, Bittu and Vikas arrived with pistols.
After firing four rounds into the air, they shot Singh twice before fleeing.
Police are investigating the case and efforts are underway to apprehend the accused.
The incident has raised concerns about safety in the area, with residents urging strict action against such criminal activities.
