Datun Seller Couple Highlights Importance of Voting in Jharkhand Elections

Daltonganj couple show voting mark, emphasize duty despite challenges

Key Points:

– Sukhan Singh and Sulkhani Devi, forest gatherers, vote despite hardships

– Sell forest products at Daltonganj station, prioritize voting before work

– Reflects true spirit of civic duty among underprivileged citizens

MEDININAGAR – As election authorities across Jharkhand promoted voter awareness programs, one couple from Daltonganj district exemplified the true spirit of civic duty, voting early before starting their daily work selling forest products at Daltonganj Railway Station.

Sukhan Singh and his wife Sulkhani Devi, who collect and sell datun (teeth-cleaning twigs), dona, and pattal (leaf plates), understand the value of each vote, despite their minimal interaction with government outreach programs.

The couple, who often spend the night near the station to continue their daily sales, proudly displayed their ink-marked fingers, confirming they voted before dawn.

“When asked why they vote, Sukhan said, ‘Voting is essential. We’ve voted since the start, and we always will,’” reflecting their commitment despite their challenging circumstances.

The example set by Sukhan and Sulkhani demonstrates the deep-rooted commitment to democracy among everyday citizens.
