JAMSHEDPUR – A local court has acquitted four individuals accused in the 2021 suicide case of a Tata Steel employee and his daughter, citing insufficient evidence.
The Principal District and Sessions Judge Anil Kumar Mishra-I presided over the case.
Moreover, the court’s decision came after all witnesses retracted their initial statements during the trial.
The incident occurred on June 30, 2021, near Jugsalai railway crossing.
Pritpal Singh Saini, a Tata Steel employee, and his daughter Baljeet took their own lives by jumping in front of a freight train.
In addition, police recovered a suicide note from the scene, implicating family members for the tragic decision.
The note alleged pressure to withdraw a previous case (222/2020) against Pritpal’s elder brother.
Furthermore, it mentioned threats and intimidation tactics involving influential figures and local thugs.
On the other hand, the accused – Paramjit Singh Saini, Harjeet Singh, Jasbir Kaur, and Harjeet Kaur – were named in the FIR filed by Pritpal’s wife, Nisha.
The complaint detailed an incident on June 25, where the accused allegedly created a ruckus at Pritpal’s house.
However, the lack of corroborating evidence led to the acquittal of all four defendants.
