Members of the Bharatiya Janatantra Morcha’s women’s wing in Jamshedpur organized a candle march in Baridih on Saturday to pay tribute to Dr. Momita Devnath and demand justice following her horrific rape and murder in Bengal.
JAMSHEDPUR – Women of the BJM in Jamshedpur, led by women’s wing president Manju Singh, held a candle march in Baridih on Saturday, calling for justice for the doctor, who was brutally raped and murdered last week in Bengal.
The protesters expressed their grief and outrage over the incident, criticizing the Bengal government for its failure to apprehend the culprits even after a week.
Manju Singh voiced her concerns, questioning the safety of women in the country and highlighting the failure of a female Chief Minister to protect women.
She urged the Prime Minister to take immediate action, stating, "Are women still unsafe in our country? No educational institution seems safe for women anymore."
Singh further expressed her suspicion of a larger conspiracy behind the murder and demanded a CBI inquiry into the case.
The candle march saw participation from several prominent members, including Kakuli Mukherjee, Ranjit Rai, Putul Singh Manorama, Pinky, Sarita, Lakshmi Sarkar, Geeta Kundu, and Rekha Mahanadi, along with a significant number of male party members.
District President Subodh Srivastava, Baridih Mandal President Bijay Narayan, and Youth Vice President Anant Thakur also condemned the incident, describing it as deeply shameful.
The protest aimed to draw attention to the increasing vulnerability of women and the urgent need for justice and protection.
