Jamshedpur FC Secures Crucial Victory in Durand Cup Clash

Red Miners Triumph Over Chennaiyin FC in Thrilling Group D Encounter

Jamshedpur FC’s 2-1 win against Chennaiyin FC marks their second victory in the 133rd IndianOil Durand Cup campaign.

JAMSHEDPUR – Jamshedpur FC clinched a 2-1 victory over Chennaiyin FC in a Group D match of the 133rd IndianOil Durand Cup at the Tata Sports Complex stadium.

The Red Miners took an early lead when Wungngayam Muirang headed home a well-placed corner from Mobashir Rahman in the first half.

Jordan Murray extended Jamshedpur’s advantage with a powerful header in the second half, converting a cross from Md. Imran.

Chennaiyin FC’s Vincy Barretto scored a spectacular long-range goal in stoppage time, but it came too late to alter the outcome.

This victory follows Jamshedpur’s earlier win against Assam Rifles, solidifying their position in the tournament.

Chennaiyin FC, on the other hand, suffered their second consecutive defeat after losing to the Indian Army in their opening match.

Both teams made strategic changes to their lineups, with Jamshedpur’s Khalid Jamil opting for an aggressive four-forward formation.

Chennaiyin’s Noel Wilson maintained a traditional 4-3-3 setup, relying on experienced players like Romario Jesuraj and captain Bikash Yumnam in defense.

The match saw several substitutions, including the introduction of Spanish striker Javier Siverio for Jamshedpur in the second half.

Chennaiyin had a chance to equalize in the first half when they were awarded a penalty, but the opportunity was missed.

Jamshedpur goalkeeper Albino Gomes narrowly missed out on a clean sheet due to Barretto’s late strike.

"We’re pleased with the team’s performance and the result," said a Jamshedpur FC spokesperson. "This win gives us momentum as we progress in the tournament."
