Hul Diwas Commemorated in Birsanagar, Jamshedpur

Tributes paid to Sido-Kanhu statues on Hul Diwas

Hul Diwas, symbolizing the rebellion against British rule, was commemorated at Gudiya Maidan in Birsanagar Zone No. 1.

JAMSHEDPUR – Tributes were paid to the life-sized statues of Sido-Kanhu at Gudiya Maidan, Birsanagar, marking Hul Diwas.

The event also honored the memory of Sido-Kanhu, Chand-Bhairav, Phulo-Jhano, and other freedom fighters.

Sido and Kanhu Murmu were prominent leaders of the Santhal rebellion in 1855, a significant uprising against the British colonial authorities.

The rebellion is remembered for its fierce resistance and the ultimate sacrifice of many tribal leaders.

"This day is special to remember the sacrifices and struggle of the tribal heroes who fought fiercely against the British," stated Tridev Singh.

The occasion was attended by Tridev Singh, Jittu Singh, Johnny Masih, members of the Koshish organization, and local dignitaries.

The Hul rebellion, also known as the Santhal Hool, is a crucial part of India’s history of resistance against colonial rule.

The Santhals, led by Sido and Kanhu, initiated a revolt to protect their lands and rights from oppressive practices of the British and their agents.

The rebellion eventually led to widespread unrest and laid the foundation for future movements against British domination.

In Birsanagar, the commemoration included speeches, cultural performances, and the laying of wreaths to honor the bravery and legacy of these tribal leaders.
