Residents protest building project on local playground, halting work temporarily
Community rallies to preserve children’s recreational space from government development.
JAMSHEDPUR – Residents of Sitaramdera area in Jamshedpur staged a protest on Wednesday against construction work at the Kuan Maidan, a local playground.
The Labor Department had initiated building construction on the site, deploying JCB machines to accelerate the work.
"This field is our children’s playground," stated Aman Kumar Path, a local resident. "We can’t let it be taken away."
Concerned citizens had previously appealed to the Deputy Commissioner and Dhalbhum Sub-Divisional Officer to halt the project.
The construction resumed shortly after the recent elections, prompting immediate community opposition.
Gopal Kumar, the magistrate assigned to the scene, confirmed that the Labor Department was behind the construction plans.
"We’ve temporarily stopped the work in response to the residents’ protests," Kumar explained.
The dispute highlights the tension between government development initiatives and community spaces.
Locals fear losing a valuable recreational area that has long served the neighborhood’s children.
The Labor Department’s intentions for the proposed building remain unclear to the protestors.
Community members are calling for increased transparency and dialogue regarding development plans in their area.
The incident has sparked discussions about the importance of preserving open spaces in urban areas.
Local leaders are now seeking a meeting with higher authorities to resolve the conflict.
Residents hope for a compromise that will allow them to retain their cherished playground while accommodating necessary development.
