Chhau Dance Performances Mesmerize Audience; Cultural Heritage Celebrated
A two-day Chhau dance fair in Kayda village, Nalita Panchayat, Chakradharpur block, concluded on Saturday, featuring captivating performances and celebrating the region’s cultural heritage.
CHAKRADHARPUR – The two-day Chhau dance fair held in Kayda village of Nalita Panchayat, under Chakradharpur block, concluded on Saturday with a grand celebration.
Social worker Dr. Vijay Singh Gagarai served as the chief guest, while Congress leader Vijay Singh Samadd was the special guest at the closing ceremony.
The organizing committee president, Ravindra Nath Gagarai, vice president Pradhan Danghil, secretary Jayendra Samadd, and treasurer Madan Tanti welcomed the guests with bouquets.
The event featured enchanting Chhau dance performances by teams from Kayda village and Jugidih village, starting with Ganesh Vandana.
The dancers captivated the audience with performances depicting mythological stories such as Shiva Tandava, Sita Haran, Abhimanyu Vadh, Luv Kush Katha, Durga and Kali Avatar, Matri Puja, Gir Govardhan Puja, Makhan Chor, Tadkeshwar Vadh, Kumbhkaran Vadh, Radha Krishna Milan, Savitri Satyavan, Chandiyug, Patal Kali Modira, Ravana Vadh, Vastra Chori, Veer Birsa Munda, and more.
Addressing the audience, Dr. Vijay Singh Gagarai emphasized the importance of preserving Chhau as a cultural heritage, noting that it is not merely a dance but a lifestyle.
"Chhau is our cultural heritage. It is our duty to protect it. This dance form uniquely portrays the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and other mythological stories through expressions without words, offering new messages for the benefit of society," said Dr. Gagarai.
He announced plans to establish Chhau art centers in every panchayat to provide better platforms for regional artists at national and international levels.
The event saw a large turnout, including village head Mahendra Munda, Vijay Hansda, Dev Dayal Singh Samadd, Harish Samadd, Somay Gunja, Bipin Samadd, Sitaram Kerai, and Dubram Samadd.
