Citizens voice their opinions on Indian Steel and Wire Products expansion during a public hearing in Jamshedpur.

JAMSHEDPUR – A public hearing was held at the Tinplate Kali Mandir in Jamshedpur on Monday regarding the planned expansion of Indian Steel and Wire Products, a Tata Steel subsidiary.

Present at the hearing were Jharkhand Pollution Control Board Regional Officer, Jitendra Kumar Singh, SDO Piyush Kumar Sinha, Consulting Engineer Ashutosh Kumar, among others.

The hearing saw significant public participation, with representatives from the wire company’s management, union, and government departments in attendance.

Attendees demanded that the company’s expansion be supported, albeit under certain conditions.

They emphasized the need for the expansion to be carried out in such a way as to minimize environmental harm.

Additionally, they requested that basic facilities such as water and electricity be provided by the companies under their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

Job creation was another issue raised at the hearing.

However, there were some attendees who voiced their opposition to the plant, arguing that the CSR initiatives were merely for show and that this was unacceptable.

Despite some opposition, the majority of those present gave a green light to the company’s expansion project.
