Locals and members of Birsa Sena protest against drain construction on tribal cremation ground, leading to a scuffle and the burning of the contractor’s equipment.
JAMSHEDPUR – A construction project initiated by Mango Municipal Corporation led to a significant uproar in Ulidih on Thursday.
The project involved the construction of a drain on a tribal cremation ground, which triggered a strong reaction from locals and the members of the Birsa Sena.
Upon receiving information about the construction, members of the Birsa Army rushed to the site, driving away the contractor and his team.
In the ensuing chaos, equipment belonging to the contractor was set ablaze.
Dinkar Kachhap, a member of the Birsa Army, commented on the incident.
He stated that the Mango Municipal Corporation is inappropriately constructing a drain over the burial sites of tribal individuals.
He emphasized that such an act is disrespectful and disregarded the concerns of the local tribal population.
He added that due to administrative negligence, unauthorized houses have been constructed on the graveyard land of the tribals, which they have vehemently opposed.
